He is always on holiday
One of our favourite lines we hear when Anthony or I are away is:
"Away again? He’s always on holiday!"
Rest assured, we don’t actually get away as much as people think — hence why that line always activates our internal giggle pin.
We’re actually quite strategic with our holidays and what we pay for them. If you ever want tips, just ask — we’re pretty savvy.
Not long ago, we asked on socials what a holiday means to you: adventure, new places, hedonistic trips, or a full-on shut down?
For me, it’s all of the above — depending on my frame of mind. Running our own business calls for each of them in timed doses.
Because here’s the thing: when you run your own business, you never really clock off. You try, but there’s always something happening — front of house or behind the scenes. You can leave it, but you never truly do.
This holiday, though, is a switch-off of sorts. I know the area like the back of my hand. No thinking, no planning, no groundwork. Just land, check into the hotel, and slide straight into gear. Simple.
Anthony and I will still speak at least twice a day while I’m away. There’s too much going on not to. I suppose it’s a bit like being a digital nomad, except our work ethic is more boots on the ground. It’s just us — so we keep it tight.
Back when we worked in big corporate retail, we’d be sent off on directional or comparative shop reports — essentially paid to wander the world’s fashion capitals and see what was happening. It was fantastic, and fruitful.
Now, without those corporate budgets, we do the same thing online — and whenever we travel. Creatives can’t help but scan the environment: fashion, hospitality, anything that’s sparking excitement.
I’ve been to this island so many times I know the locals well. Running a customer-facing business makes you a bit of a social butterfly — soaking up knowledge from all angles and making friends along the way.
This place does it for me. No glitz or glamour like its sister island Ibiza. It has a vibe, but it’s old school — and I love that.
I don’t try to sell the S&B dream out here. It comes up in conversation, but I’m not here to network. I probably speak more Spanish than English while I’m here.
This is me away — clearing the brain, ready for the Autumn/Winter season ahead.
Round the pool, go for a walk, watch the sunset. Maybe I get too stuck in my own thoughts sometimes. That’s what running your own business does to you. We’ve all got a streak of introvert — or maybe it’s just thinking time.
I’m a people watcher, and I’ll admit it. Maybe this isn’t the island for extreme human behaviour — everyone’s on the same wavelength. No posturing, no peacocking. Just people soaking up the sunshine and sunsets.
And me, clearing my head.
