The Furthest S&B Hand Delivery to Date

Every now and then, running Sauce & Brown takes you somewhere you weren't expecting.

This time, it took us to Cornwall.

We were heading down from Nottingham for a week in Padstow, with the whole family packed into the car and considerably more luggage than five people should need.

Then an order came in.

Two pairs of Quarry holiday shorts.

I'd actually spoken to the customer on the phone about getting them delivered quickly, so I knew they were staying near St Merryn.

We were going to be driving straight past.

There was only one sensible thing to do.

Take them with us.

Our Cornwall delivery operation was officially underway.

We decided to break the journey with an overnight stay at Gloucester Services, which, for the purposes of this story, was our temporary Sauce & Brown sorting office.

The Quarry shorts spent the night there before continuing their journey south the following morning.

I messaged the customer to let them know I was going to hand-deliver them.

A few days later, we knocked on the door.

"Hi, I've got a delivery for you."

Obviously, they knew exactly who I was.

There was no courier. No delivery van. No tracking notification.

Just the founder of a Nottingham menswear brand standing on their doorstep in Cornwall with their holiday shorts.

They'd travelled from Nottingham, via Gloucester Services, all the way to St Merryn.

Probably the least efficient delivery we've ever made.

But almost certainly the most memorable.

And that's the funny thing about running a small business.

Sometimes the customer comes to you.

Sometimes you send the parcel through the post.

And occasionally, if you're heading in the right direction anyway, you put it in the boot and take it yourself.

Nottingham → Gloucester Services → St Merryn.

The furthest S&B hand delivery to date.

And, hopefully, the Quarry shorts got plenty of use.
