The Fastest Neighbour on Our Street

Sometimes the best stories aren't found hundreds of miles away.

Sometimes they're living just a few doors down.

A few weeks ago we discovered something that genuinely surprised us. One of our neighbours, Shaun Evans, has spent years racing one of the most dangerous motorcycle courses in the world... and we'd had absolutely no idea.

If you know motorcycle racing, you'll already know what the Isle of Man means. If you don't, imagine racing flat out around 37 miles of ordinary public roads, lined with walls, houses and trees, with thousands of people watching from the roadside.

It's not for the faint-hearted.

Shaun first visited the Isle of Man back in 1999 as a spectator. Like so many people, he fell in love with the place. But watching soon wasn't enough.

So he did something most people only ever talk about.

He learned to race.

What started with local track meetings became years of dedication, learning, rebuilding bikes and chasing lap times. In 2011 he finally stood on the start line of the Manx Grand Prix for the very first time.

Most people would call that enough.

Shaun didn't.

Since then he's returned to the Mountain Course twelve times, earned replica trophies, enjoyed some outstanding finishes and, away from the island, became No Limits Pre-Injection Champion in both 2022 and 2023.

Not bad for someone who originally planned to race the Isle of Man just once.

This year brings another challenge.

The bike has been rebuilt, the engine refreshed and Shaun will head back to the Mountain Course carrying the prestigious number 10 plate for both the Supersport and Senior Manx Grand Prix races.

We'll certainly be keeping an eye on his progress.

Stories like Shaun's are exactly why we love what we do. Every now and then we're reminded that extraordinary people aren't always celebrities or household names. Sometimes they're your neighbour. Sometimes they're the person you pass on the street without ever knowing what they've achieved.
