The Worlds Greatest Stadium
I'm going to work backwards on this one, this might just be one of the best days out I’ve had in ages—even more so with my deep-rooted allegiance to Tottenham Hotspur.
When a two-hour journey home is filled with recounting the day in a giddy tone between father and son, while two little girls sleep soundly in the back, it’s safe to chalk it up as a win.
I'm not going to go into details of the tour, that would spoil it as I would advise you to go spend the day at the stadium even if you support another team, it's well worth the money. It's very welcoming but mostly eye opening. The stadium itself feels alive, never seeming to rest—and with a £1B build cost, it’s clear that every hour needs to generate revenue. In fact if you're in the area and can't bring yourself to do the tour, grab a coffee inside, browse around the largest club shop in Europe and just wander down to the F1 drive karting experience under the stadium and get in touch if you're not impressed.
It’s refreshing to see a UK project that doesn’t feel outdated the minute it opens, maybe that's because it's a private project and not run by government. The whole place, as it rightly should looks like nothing was too much, I feel like the brief was design and build me the best and also don't come back to me in years to come saying we should have added this or that, go away and think of everything we may need and then go deliver it in Dubai level finish.
As a group, we walked up to the iconic golden cockerel on the glass gantry, the sun breaking through a light mist over Alexandra Palace. I couldn’t resist an adrenaline-filled abseil down the side with my eldest, while the rest of the group took the walk back to terra firma.
The level of detail and the care taken by the staff went beyond my expectations. The tour starts with an introduction by a guide and a powerful video on the club’s history, setting the tone for a fantastic experience. From there, you’re free to roam with an audio/video device at your own pace, encountering guides along the way who bring the stadium’s story to life.
We learned so much over the course of the day, I never knew how many players and staff roll into town with the NFL, the size of the dressing room they get is humongous but it all makes sense when we heard how much revenue it generates.
There is something about London that never fails to feel magical when visiting, go explore the capital.
I personally hate the phrase memories made and all those other hashtags that get plastered all over everyday activities for social media but this really was a day I'll cherish.
